Cosmetic surgery, also known as aesthetic surgery, takes place when a person wishes to alter their physical appearance to create a more pleasing look in their eyes.
There are a variety of breast surgeries available here at Clifton Park Hospital, allowing people to achieve their desired body and to relieve reoccurring problems such as back pain.
Cosmetic surgery differs from plastic surgery – where surgeons repair damaged tissue caused by illnesses, injuries and birth abnormalities. At Clifton Park Hospital we have a range of cosmetic surgeries available from facial surgeries to breast surgeries.
Breast Surgeries Available:
Many women consider a breast reduction due to the physical discomfort that large breasts can entail – ranging from back to neck pain. Larger breasts can also cause emotional problems and particular distress to women who feel particularly self-conscious because of them.
The process of breast reduction involves skin, fat and glandular tissue removal. The nipples will then be repositioned and the breasts reshaped by the surgeon.
Men may also have the surgery if they suffer from a condition called gynaecomastia, a benign enlargement of the breast tissue.
Breast Enlargement (Breast Augmentation - “boob job”)
Breast enlargement (also commonly called “boob job”) may be considered if you have small breasts naturally or have noticed a decrease in size to them post pregnancy or weight loss. It is one of the most common cosmetic procedures for women in the UK.
The surgeon will make cuts to the skin to make way for breast implants that are placed over or under the muscles in the chest. The surgery normally lasts between 1 to 2 hours. This operation does not normally involve a stay overnight though in some cases you may need to. The breasts at first may not feel entirely natural – this should go away after the first few months.
A breast uplift, also called a mastopexy, will lift and reshape your pendulous breasts to create a more youthful and perter looking breast. Breasts can decrease in size as a result of breastfeeding. Breast uplift surgery can be combined with breast augmentation surgery to give you fuller and supported breasts.
There are different types of breast uplifts and your consultant will discuss the best type for you based on your breast size and the result you want to achieve.
