There are many areas of the body that you can have cosmetically altered in one way or another. Whether you want to drastically change a part of your body or simply want to improve something, here at Clifton Park Hospital, we have many body surgeries available.
The range of body surgeries we offer
Many people – both male and female – are keen to remove unwanted body fat to achieve a slimmer figure and improve their appearance.
Liposuction is the procedure of permanently removing fat cells from areas of the body that tends to hold the fat (e.g. thighs, hips, stomach and buttocks). Although fat cells can permanently be removed, results are not permanent should you gain weight after surgery.
Depending on how many areas of the body are treated, the procedure usually takes between 1 and 3 hours and is regularly performed under general anaesthetic.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Whether you are conscious of your tummy since loosing a significant amount of weight, giving birth or any other reason, then you may be considering a tummy tuck.
The purpose of a tummy tuck is to remove excess skin and fat from the stomach and can also tighten the abdominal muscles leaving the area looking slimmer and tighter.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and can take up to 3 hours to complete. There are several types of tummy tuck – standard, mini and extended – during consultation your surgeon will determine how much skin and fat needs to be removed and will help you choose the most suitable treatment.
You may have scars that you are conscious of, whether caused by burns, acne, injury, or for any other reason, however there are treatments available that can improve their appearance.
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
If you are conscious of the excess skin on your underarm (“bingo wings”) whether from losing weight or general ageing then you may want to consider an arm lift.
The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic and your surgeon will work to segments of fat and skin by making an incision between your armpit and elbow. The remaining skin and tissue will then be lifted into place therefore eliminating the look of ‘bingo wings’/saggy skin.
The vaginal area has become an ever-increasingly popular area of the body to have cosmetically altered. This area is a very intimate part for females and therefore it is important that they feel comfortable in themselves and with their sexual partners.
See below for details on what cosmetic procedures we offer:
Vaginoplasty (vaginal tightening)
There are many factors that can cause the muscles in the vagina to loosen and therefore potentially decrease confidence and sexual pleasure experienced (e.g. ageing and childbirth).
A vaginoplasty procedure involves ‘tightening’ the vagina by pulling the skin and muscles in the wall of the vagina tight and stitching them together. In most cases surgery takes around an hour and is usually performed under general anaesthetic.
Labiaplasty (Labial correction)
Some women may consider their labia (skin at either side of the vagina) to be larger than average and may feel conscious of how it looks.
Obviously, every woman is different and the labium comes in all shapes and sizes and there is not particular way it should look, however there are procedures that can change the appearance of the labia.
Labiaplasty takes around 30 minutes to an hour and is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case (in most cases). In this time the surgeon will work to alter the appearance of the labia.
It is important that you feel comfortable in your own skin and sometimes you may feel the only way to do this is to have cosmetic surgery.
Here at Clifton Park Hospital we have a team of experienced surgeons ready to give you expert advice and guidance on how to create a body that you feel comfortable in, whether that be having liposuction, labiaplasty, scar revision surgery and more.
